Microcosm: A World in Miniature explores a rudimentary understanding of the philosophical concept of Microcosm and Macrocosm. A concept originating in ancient times and traced to the theories of Plato, through to the Renaissance and in various religious traditions, including Buddhism. The western philosophical term Microcosm describes man as a “little world” in which the macrocosm, or universe, is reflected.

 

With this concept as a catalyst, the works are a symbolic representation of our universe and investigate repetitive tensions between internal and external structures. Through a series of reconstructed print collages and sculptural pieces, spontaneous appearances of pattern and form in organic systems sit between two and three-dimensional surfaces.
