SPACE ONCE OCCUPIED

untitled - Space Once Occupied

untitled (Space Once Occupied), 2013,

watercolour on Arches

Beginning with realism as the point of inspiration and departure, the Space Once Occupied series is derived from the skeletal form which is manipulated through simplification, fragmentation, distortion and reconstruction. This body of work aimed to present the viewer with visual contradictions that challenged the accepted perceptions and associations of skulls and carcasses with death and decay. The objects were manipulated to explore the structures, voids, spaces, contours and marks that remained.
